Artemis II constitutes NASA's initial crewed lunar expedition since Apollo 17 in 1972. This mission prepares for subsequent year's Artemis III, which will feature additional Orion personnel practicing orbital docking procedures with moon landers. The culminating southern polar landing by two astronauts will follow with Artemis IV in 2028.
